New monarch butterfly emerges!

Up to three or four monarch, tiger swallowtail, and black swallowtail butterflies, plus the late-summer skippers (and of course the ever-present cabbage whites), have been feasting, mating, and flying around the backyard for weeks! Below is the female that emerged this morning. Her empty chrysalis, with gold spots still showing, is seen beside her. The green chrysalis to the left of the vacant chrysalis contains a developing monarch butterfly. Its wing pattern is visible. Such a joy to release a newborn butterfly. Celebrate life!!!
