Welcome to the world, baby monarch caterpillar!!!

So nice to see this baby born this afternoon! Monarch sightings remain rare in 2013. Right now I have only a handful of monarch cats to raise. Usually I have dozens in August. Once a caterpillar hatches, it consumes its egg for nutrients. The photo under this photo shows the dark head of the caterpillar through the egg. That means the cat will break through in a few hours. The bottom photo shows a fairly new monarch egg.
